What do we hear all day? That's right it's mom and that's a beautiful thing.
But who are you outside of parenting? This may seem like a loaded question trust me it's not. when I had my oldest child, it was easy to be me outside of just parenting.
once you start adding more children to the family you can be buried in the number of moms you hear in a day oh and don't get me started on how many times you can be called mom in an hour.
ultimately this will lead to questions like who I am outside of motherhood well I remember asking myself this after my 3rd child and I didn't have an answer.
I had completely stopped dreaming I didn't have any goals no ambition my aspirations were pretty much cleaning up crumbs and hoping for a nice shower uninterrupted.
when it comes to identity the truth is we do have one I learned that my identity is in Christ Jesus he is the one that Gives me substance we all are searching for substance looking for it in ourselves to show up in the world.
I believe in my heart that the truest substance you can leave behind is love. love is not an emotion but an action you see a person's identity is made up of characteristic it's not so much about who we are but more so about how we are. We all just want to leave some meaningful substance in our footprints
so, I guess what I'm getting at is. being a mother is a role we are participating in to influence whether you are a mother or have a role as a teacher a doctor or architect the best way to measure your substance is by holding it up to the characteristic of love the bible says.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not
insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but
rejoices with the truth.
It's easy to get wrapped up in the highs and lows of life trying to climb the ladder of success. The world influences us to be self-made driven over achievers and by any means necessary.
But the lord says in
Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for
human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as
a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
If we keep Jesus as our core focus and meditate on his principles, we will leave behind a substance that our grandchildren find nourishment in for years to come.
